The black-and-white photographs of Dirk Braeckman convey a sense of stillness. For all their monumentality, they show anonymous places and stories. Braeckman, together with M curator Eva Wittocx, is representing Belgium in 2017 at the 57th Venice Biennale. His new work will then be shown at M and Bozar.
This publication accompanies the double exposition and presents a selective overview of Dirk Braeckman’s artistic practice of the last twenty years, with a focus the works produced for the Venice Biennale. It consists of 167 images, essays in English by Douglas Fogle and Hubertus von Amelunxen, and an interview with the artist and curator Eva Wittocx.
