De Verliefde Camera
Ed van der Elsken (1925-1990) was an innovative, quirky street photographer and documentary filmmaker. He is one of the most important Dutch photographers of the twentieth century and searched in cities such as Paris, Amsterdam, Hong Kong and Tokyo for self-confident people, beautiful girls and unruly youth. His photographs are strong in form, rooted in their time and yet timeless. Van der Elsken his breakthrough came in 1956 with the publication of Een liefdesgeschiedenis in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. This photo novel was followed by more than twenty books, including Jazz (1959), Sweet Life (1966) and De ontdekking van Japan (1988).
De Verliefde Camera is a unique collection of the finest works of his photographic oeuvre, in black and white and in color, which have become the most iconic images of the Dutch photographic history.
